Exchange Public Folder
If I create a Public Folder from Exchange Management Console, users can drag any e-mails thay want everyone at work to see. Is there any other benefits of Public folder and apart from OWA can it be accessed from Outlook 2007 as I do not have Public Folder on Outlook. Thanks

I don't usually recommend that public folder creation is done through EMC, do it through Outlook instead. This allows you to set the folder in the correct format (mail, notes, contact or calendar) and you can set the permissions easily. Once you have assigned the required permissions, users can drop emails in to the folders as required. You can also mail enable a public folder so that email can be received directly by the folder. Public Folders are hidden on the default view. You need to change to the folder view using the buttons at the bottom of the left hand column. had to press CTRL + 6 and it listed the Public folders, is this normal and has to be done on each client ?

Public Folder display is a per user basis. Therefore you would have to tell users how to enable it. CTRL-6 is the same as pressing the Folder List icon in Outlook. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

Just as an info, so why is that by default the public folder is not cached on the client like it happens with all other folders ?

Just as an info, so why is that by default the public folder is not cached on the client like it happens with all other folders ? Public Folders are not cached by default, because this could cause a conflict of the messages. You can configure Outlook to cache public folders, usually by first adding the folder as a favourite (right click on the Folder and choose add to favourites). Adding the public folders to the list of Favourite Public Folders will also show a read/unread status. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/

I have to restore some items to \\Public Folders\Favourites\ (i.e. some user had Contacts folder+contents, from their shared Contacts also in \\Public Folders\All Public Folders). Where are items in Favourite stored? I restored the user's mailbox from backup (long and tedious procedure even in Exch2007), but no find there. OST? Thanks Fungpiew
