Exchange SP2 install error code 0xC0070643
Hi
Received the following message while installing the SP2 update: Setup failed while installing sub-component Exchange ActiveSync with error code 0xC0070643 (please consult the installation logs for a detailed description). You may cancel the installation or try the failed step again.
Tried a number of times without success and so cancelled the operation. Server appears to be working ok, but does anyone know anything about this and how to overcome it (if necessary)? Also, can anyone tell me where to find the installtion logs?
Thanks

Hi,
This might help: http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2005/10/28/73370.aspx
Setup logs are located in the root of the C drive.

Thanks Leif.
I have already tried that one, butour server doesn't appear to have the offending file mentioned. I would welcome any other possible solutions.

Hi,
I'm not familiar with these logs. However, I've locatedthe install log on drive c: (whihc is huge) and found what I think is the relevant section.
There are a number of lines where the words 'Exchange Active Sync' is clearly shown, following which there is acommand line called from MSXML installer that fails, returning error code 1603 (Fatal error during installation). ID: 31136.
The command line is: msiexec /i msxm13.msi /q reboot="ReallySuppress"
Before failing, the process exits with 0x000643
I'veno idea what this means or how to resolve the issue. Can you help?
Thanks.

Did you figure this out yet? I'm getting the same error as well. Everyone on the net refers me to that dk site which has nothing to do with the error like the one you are getting. This is frustrating

That's the fix! Took a 2003 file version off another exchange server and replaced the 2005 version that was on the server. Clicked Retry and the install finished.

Thanks for the recent replies.
Chays77: Our support are asking for the name of the file that you replaced so then can try the fix?

Yes, I think you are on to something there and thank you. Although in my casethe installation log textmimicks what you've copied but the Application Event log doesn't contain any 1013 error on MSXML Instead there is this:
Source: MsiInstaller, Event ID: 10005, Description: Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 -- Device Update 4.0 -- This Device Update has already been installed.

This also happen to me I was able to resolve it by downloading MSXML6.msi then going to the /program files/exchsrvr/bin replacing msxml3.msi and with msxml6.msi so that when you click retry sp2 thinks it loading msxml3 but really you are loading version 6I think this happened because I ran my windows updates before I was finished installing my exchange server
