Exchange Server & Cloud Server deployment.
There is a gateway which is my Verizon router which has a public IP and a private of 10.20.30.1. There is a primary domain controller that has a public IP and a private one of 10.20.30.40. The machine 10.20.30.40 is currently running exchange server. I would
like to open a cloud server at my hosting provider which has a totally different public IP and load exchange server on it. I then will point my MX, CNAME and SPF to the new cloud server. I would like to be able to create direct Microsoft Exchange connections
to the cloud server from machines inside my private network to the cloud with a public IP running Exchange Server. Do I need to set up some kind of VPN? Is what I want to do even possible?
Thank you! I look forward to your replies!

what you are trying to do is possible, as long as you keep certain things in mind...
The question would rather be: do you really want to do that? In my opinion you are far much better off with buying an Office 365 subscription, which does exactly do what you are looking for. And that it is more secure and reliable.
grts,
