Exchange Server 2003 Fails at step 6
Hello all, I am attempting to install Exchange Server 2003 on my Win Server 2003 std. system. This server is my primary domain controller. I have a Win 2000 Server system replicating this server. Each time I try to install Exchange 2003 on the Server 2003 system, it gets to the ForestPrep (step 6), and eventually fails after a bit of installing. Below are the output of netdiag and dcdiag: Netdiag: .................................... Did you ever run Exchange 5.5 in this domain? Or is this the first exchange server? Reason I ask is because in the past if Exchange 5.5 was installed both the Exchange 5.5 LDAP and AD ports use port 389

No, this is the first time I am trying to deploy Exchange Server 2003. I have tried Exchange 2003 before but with the same results - now I have more time to research it though.

You can try changing the Temp directory on the server, as sometimes there issues with 8.3 format in setup, try creating a directory like C:\Temp and then changing the Temp path in your Environment Variables (Right Click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables) and just change it and run ForestPrep again

I will try this. However, there are some errors in the Exchange Server Setup Log that I don't understand. I would post the whole thing but it is huge. What errors I can find in the log are:[10:26:36] CComBOIFacesFactory::QueryInterface (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\bo\bofactory.cxx:54) Error code 0X80004002 (16386): No interface.[10:27:12] ************** Beginning Setup run **************[10:27:12] Starting Exchange 6944 setup on Windows 5.2.3790.Service Pack 2 at 10:27:12 06/21/2007[10:27:12] Entering CFileManager:cInit[10:27:12] Entering CFileManager:cAutoDetectDirectoryLocations[10:27:12] CService:cQueryServiceConfig (f:\titanium\admin\src\libs\exsetup\service.cxx:539) Error code 0XC0070424 (1060): The specified service does not exist as an installed service.[10:27:12] ScGetClusterSvcDir (f:\titanium\admin\src\libs\exsetup\exmisc.cxx:2346) Error code 0XC0070424 (1060): The specified service does not exist as an installed service.[10:27:12] === IGNORING PREVIOUS ERRORS === CFileManager:cAutoDetectDirectoryLocations (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\filemgr.cxx:604) The operation has completed successfully.[10:27:12] Leaving CFileManager:cAutoDetectDirectoryLocations[10:27:12] Entering ScGetMicrosoftExchangeCTHeuristics[10:27:12] ScGetMicrosoftExchangeCTHeuristics (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\excommon\ptudutil.cxx:517) Error code 0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the server.[10:27:12] Leaving ScGetMicrosoftExchangeCTHeuristics[10:27:12] Leaving CDirectoryManager:cGetOrgLevelObjectStatus[10:27:12] Entering CDirectoryManager:cDeterminePermissionLevel[10:27:12] Checking permissions in the Config NC: /dc=com/dc=tc/cn=Configuration/cn=Services[10:27:12] We have permission ConfigNC_Read10:27:12] We have permission DomainNC_Write[10:27:12] Checking to see if an Exchange org exists[10:27:12] ScGetExistingOrgName (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\excommon\ptudutil.cxx:1476) Error code 0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the server.[10:27:12] Didn't find an org -- extending Config NC permissions to org/AG level[10:27:12] Based on ConfigNC perms, we assume permission (ExchOrg_Read | ExchAG_Read)10:27:12] Component {C7310662-AC80-11D1-8DF3-00C04FB6EF4F} is dependable[10:27:12] Component {DA943894-7A14-4FFF-BBDC-C004FAE2310B} is not dependable[10:27:12] CDependencyManager::FComponentPresent (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\depmgr.cxx:209) Error code 0X80070057 (87): Invalid Argument.[10:27:12] Component 1 is installed[10:27:12] Component {94B7AD3E-0B63-42AC-A542-082ED1F78787} is not dependable[10:27:12] CDependencyManager::FComponentPresent (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\depmgr.cxx:209) Error code 0X80070057 (87): Invalid Argument.[10:27:12] Component 2 is installed[10:27:12] Component {ECD1A63D-DBAF-442C-BF46-904364A96B00} is not dependable[10:27:12] CDependencyManager::FComponentPresent (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\setupbase\tools\depmgr.cxx:209) Error code 0X80070057 (87): Invalid Argument.[10:27:12] Component 3 is installed[10:27:12] Leaving CDependencyManager:etermineComponentAvailability[10:27:12] Entering CBaseExchangeComponent:cEvalInstalled10:27:47] The Domain Servers group does not have READ permissions on the Exchange container[10:27:47] ScGetExistingOrgName (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\excommon\ptudutil.cxx:1476) Error code 0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the server.[10:27:47] The required permissions have not already been set[10:27:47] Leaving ScDetermineIfLocalDomainServerGroupHasAlreadyBeenACLedOnExchangeCT10:28:11] Entering CAtomOrgLevelCt:cPollAtomRemovalControl[10:28:11] CBaseComponent:cPollAtomsForRemoval (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\setupbase\basecomp\basecomp.cxx:2046) Error code 0XC103F222 (61986): Not installed[10:28:11] CBaseComponent:cPollAtomsForRemoval (f:\titanium\admin\src\udog\setupbase\basecomp\basecomp.cxx:2046) Error code 0XC103F222 (61986): Not installed[10:28:11] Entering ScIsDomainPrepped[10:28:11] Checking whether the domain "/dc=com/dc=tc" is DomainPrepped10:28:11] Getting DOB for group 0[10:28:11] ScGetExchangeServerGroups (f:\titanium\admin\src\libs\exsetup\dsmisc.cxx:353) Error code 0X80072030 (8240): There is no such object on the server.[10:28:11] Leaving ScGetExchangeServerGroups[10:28:11] Server groups not found10:32:13] About to create the dob for object /dc=com/dc=tc/cn=Configuration/cn=Schema/cn=ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt[10:32:13] Leaving ScGetSchemaVersion[10:32:54] ScRunLDIFScript (f:\titanium\admin\src\libs\exsetup\exmisc.cxx:1309) Error code 0XC1037AE6 (31462): Extending the schema in the Active Directory failed. So are you installing using an Enterprise Admin account? Also in services are your IIS Admin Service, SMTP, NNTP and World Wide Web Publishing services started, one of you errors in that log point to that, but cant see how that is directly related to forestprep.

Yes sir - the account I'm using is a member of the Enterprise Admins group. All of the services you listed are started also. Is there anything else I can do?
