Exchange Server 2003 Out of Office Reply Issue
Hi
We are using Exchange 2003 as an Mail server in our organization ABC Pty Ltd.A user xyz sends an email on 4th of Januray 2010 from her hotmail account (xyz@hotmail.com) to our two organization (ABC Pty Ltd) staff ( Richard@abc.com & Alex@abc.com) .Both Richard & Alex were on leave on 4th of January 2010 and the Out of Office was enabled on their Mailboxes.User xyz received Out of Office reply messages from both Richard & Alex email addreses. But Richard & Alex complained that they never received that email from user xyz on 4th of January 2010.We (IT Staff of ABC Pty Ltd) have tracked that email by using Messaging Tracking option built-in Exchange 2003 and the tracking result shows that both Richard & Alex received email from user xyz on 4th of Januray 2010 and it's successfully delivered to their Mailboxes. But when we searched their Outlook ( All folders , including deleted items & Junk folder and also checked recovered deleted items folder) ,we couldn't find that email message and it looks like disappeared some where. If you ever come across with this similar issue then please help us.ThanksSohail

If you can track the email and also if the OOF meeage got fired, it means the mail was in. Now you need to look for some thing (might be a server side rule) which deleted the email..Raj

Hi Sohail,
If you have the xyz resends same message from her Hotmail account, whether the issue can be reproduced? I agree with Raj, please check whether any rule exists might remove the message.
If the issue can be reproduced by resending the same message, please refer to following KB to clear rules
How to delete corrupted and hidden rules from a single mailbox in Outlook 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924297/en-us
Note: Before import rule back to Mailbox, please have XYZ resend same message again to check whether the issue still persists. You can also add the xyz’s Hotmail account to safe sender in order to bypass Junk Email filter.
