Exchange Server 2003 problem
We have an Exchange Server 2003.
When we launch System manager we get the following error:
"Exchange detected that C:\Windows\system32\PAPI32.DLL is not the correct version required to run Exchange System Manager or Exchange Server 2003 etc "
Your help would be appreciated,
Regards,
Guido

PAPI32.DLL ? Are you sure you don't mean MAPI32.DLL?
If you do mean mapi32.dll, do you have Outlook installed on the same server? If so, remove it. Outlook installed on an Exchange server was not supported until Exchange 2007. You will then need to reinstall Exchange to get the MAPI interfaces corrected. You
might get away with reinstalling just SP2 and then the post SP2 updates, but worst case scenario is that you have to run Exchange 2003 setup and choose the reinstall option, then reapply Exchange 2003 SP2, followed by post SP2 updates.

Hi Simon,
Thank you for your reply. It was a typo it is mapi32.dll. Outlook is not installed on this Server, only Outlook Web Access.
Also the Microsoft Insformation Store Service cannot start.
Any suggestions.

Hi
1. you can try to renamed the \windows\system32\mapi32.dll, took the MAPI32.DLL from the Exchange server CD-ROM (from the \setup\i386\exchange\bin folder) and copied it in to the \windows\system32 folder.
Then restart your server. Some servers work and some servers don’t.
2. If it doesn’t work ,you have to rename mapi32.dll and reinstall sp2 as Sembee said.
