Exchange Server 2016 and Windows Server 2016

At this time we have decided to hold off upgrading our servers and Exchange untill Windows Server 2016 is made available.  My question is whethter or not Exchange Server 2016 will be supported on Windows Server 2016 at release or shortly thereafter (possibly through a CU) and if I must wait how long a wait am I in for?

Thanks in advance,

Support wise definitely it will be supported but the time frame nobody can confirm on this i believe until we get an announcement from Microsoft

There has been no formal announcement.

Based on experience with Exchange 2013 and Windows 2012 R2, support at point of release for the new OS (as Exchange 2016 will be released before Windows 2016) will not be immediately available and the product should have blocks in it to stop the installation. A future CU will then have support for the new OS.

As for how long - could be anything up to three months - if Windows 2016 is released the day after a cumulative update is released, then you will have to wait for the next one.

Monitor the Exchange Team blog - they will announce it as soon as Windows 2016 is released.

If you must plan - I would say this time next year you will probably be able to use Windows 2016 with Exchange 2016.

Simon.
