Exchange and SMTP
Hi I have a question about properly setting up SMTP SmartHost. We have our Exchange server setup on our internal network and it forwards / recieves all mail from a Linux based mail server on the DMZ which performs initial A/V and AntiSpam scans.
Currently I have Exchange SMTP setup to forward all mail to the DMZ based server as a Smarthost and I am seeing two issues with this.
1) When the Exchange server recieves an NDR from the DMZ server itdoes something to the NDR message and displaysa generic NDR saying "message could not be dlivered, mail server did not report a specific reason." When I look at the original NDR from the smarthost server it has all the details as to why the server could not send the message.
2) Occasionally I will get an outlook user who gets a message stating:
> From: System Administrator> Sent: Thursday, October 12, 2006 10:20 AM> To: John Doe> Subject: Undeliverable: all here> > Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.> > Subject: all here> Sent: 10/12/2006 10:20 AM> > The following recipient(s) could not be reached:> >John Doeon 10/12/2006 10:20 AM> You do not have permission to send to this recipient. For> assistance, contact your system administrator.> MSEXCH:MSExchangeIS:/DC=net/DC=internal:EXCHANGE
We do not have any delivery restrictions set so I am not sure why this is popping up. FYI the mail was never even routed to the Smarthost. This is entirely from Exchange.
So I am also wondering if I should be using an SMTP Connector instead of setting up smtp to use a smart host?
Please help.
