Exchange backup error
I get this error every night when my backup runs: Consistency check for component 'e8ed1165-a879-49f4-8865-99a99de6a2ff'\'Microsoft Exchange Server\Microsoft Information Store\servername' failed. Application 'Exchange' will not be avaliable in the backup done at time '11/8/2009 9:00:17 PM' I've googled this error, and seen lots of people say you can't use Windows Server Backup with Exchange if you're running "LCR" or "SCR". I don't know what those are, but I'm pretty sure I never turned them on or installed them, unless they're on by default. Windows Server 2008, 64 bit Exchange 2007 SP2 new install, only a couple months old I thought about trying isinteg, but the server's so new it seems too soon for something to break already...

HI Steve, yes there is an issues with backing up with standalone exchange servers such as LCR and SCR. Exchange 2007 Dosen't support the Exchange Replica VSS Writer that is part of the Replication service. therefore you couldn't able to backup LCR and SCR's passive copies of storage groups. There is an workground to solve this issues. In order to take an online Exchange-aware backup of a server using LCR or serving as an SCR target you must disable the Replica VSS Writer used by LCR. Fallow below steps. 1. Open Registry Editor and browse to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Replay\Parameters registry key. 2. Add a new DWORD value named EnableVSSWriter and set the value to 0 (zero). 3. Restart the Microsoft Exchange Replication Service. Also I suggest you to use Exchange aware backup solutions like DPM.regards Chinthaka Shameera | MCITP: EA | MCSE: M | http://howtoexchange.wordpress.com/

Hi,The LCR is not run by default.I think you maybe need to know whether the services is run or not.Try to run the cmdlet Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus | select StorageGroupName,SummaryCopyStatus check the SummaryCopyStatus is "Disabled" or "Healthy". Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997246.aspxYou can also check it in EMC:Server Configuration->mailbox->Database Management->check the "Copy Status" tag.Frank Wang

What backup software are you using? Streaming backups aren't allowedusing NTBackup (IIRC you can if you're running E2K7 SP2).---Rich MatheisenMCSE+I, Exchange MVP--- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Frank - both storage groups are listed as "Disabled". I'm new to Exchange 2007, is "disabled" what I want?

Huh...well my backup matches the settings MS recommends, so I don't know what's going on here. Here's my backup batch file: wbadmin start backup -include:C:,D: -backuptarget:F: -allcritical -vssFull -quiet

Hi Steve,Did you try to backup the exchange server in Windows server backup console? And the same error? And please check the "Microsoft Exchange Server Extension for Windows server backup" whether is exist or notin Serivces node. Please also check the file "wsbexchange.exe" whether is located in exchange installed directory or not, like "c:\Program Files\Microsoft\exchange server\Bin".If it is not exist, please copy the file from Exchange 2007 setup file. The file is locatedin "setup\serverroles\common". OK, I just started a manual backup as described in Rich's link, and got the consistency check error with Exchange right away. Frank: I checked, and found the service you referred to. And wsbexchange.exe is in the C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Bin folder.
