Exchange says my environment is not 2003 native

Good day,

I am trying to install Exchange 2013 onto a server 2012 R2 in a 2008 forest level environment. During the installation process after the prerequisite analysis it errors out with this.

Error:

The forest functional level of the current Active Directory forest is not Windows Server 2003 native or later. To install Exchange Server 2013, the forest functional level must be at least Windows Server 2003 native.

I have confirmed my forest level is running at 2008 native. Any ideas?

Hi WillOLuc,

Thank you for your question.

We could refer to the following steps to check if the forest functional level is2008:

  1.        Run ADsiedit.msc in RUN on DC
  2.        Navigate to Configuration-> CN=Configuration,DC=contoso,DC=com->Partitions
  3.        Right click Partitions and choose Properties
  4.        Check the value of msDS-Behavior-Version and make sure the value is 3 instead of 1

Notice: we must backup AD database before we modify it. I suggest we call MS engineer for help if we want to modify it.

If there are multiple DCs, please make sure the value on all DCs is same(AD replication work among DCs), then we could run setup to check if the issue persist.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim
