Exchange server 2003 standard edition with service pack2
Team ; We have exchange server 2003 with std edition with service pack 2. We have received the below error while taken the backup the 'Microsoft Information Store' returned 'Error returned from an ESE function call (d). ' from a call to 'HrESEBackupRead()' additional data '-'The 'Microsoft Information Store' returned 'Error returned from an ESE function call (d). ' from a call to 'HrESEBackupRead()' additional data '-'The operation was ended.

Hello, The error message above is really not relevant. Please provide some more details about: 1. The tool you use to take the backup. If it's a third-party tool, try using NtBakup and see what are the results. 2. List the complete events you get in the application logs from the Source ESE Backup when you launch the backup job. 3. Maybe a backup log from th etool you use to backup will also help. 4. Please specify if you ever took a valid backup before with the current tool . 5. Do you try to backup remotely or on the same server> Hope it helps, Mihai

Ans We are using Ntbackup utility for backup of exchange database 3. Maybe a backup log from th etool you use to backup will also help. Hello , Thanks for your input.we have run the isinteg -fix command on the affected store. We have found that database is corrupt.but main problem is here we can not run eseutil /p command on affected serverbecause it loose our data.our management does not allow to take downtime for the same.We have suggest management to install anothor exchange server 2003 ,is it possible we can install exchange 2003 enterprise edition or migrate the data from standard edition to enterprise 2003 ? can u suggest Thanks Dayanand Gore

Hi, Of course, you can move the mailboxes from standard to enterprise version. Using ESEUTIL /p is a last resort utility that is only run when databases will not mount due to inconsistancy. But be aware that while you move the mailboxes, end users also cannot connect to exchange server. Frank Wang
