Exchange server 2010 POP, SMTP Configuration

Hi,

I am using exchange server 2010 and my MX record is hosted on third party. due to policy matter we are not using outlook anywhere.

I want to configure POP and IMAP for my foreign branches client in order to access email through internet.

What steps (Pre-requisit) required in order to get email through POP and imap through internet.

Nothing special. You need to enable these services on Exchange Server 2010 and also open appropriate ports on your firewall. Make sure that you enforce encryption for both POP and IMAP to avoid security issues. You can find all details about configuring POP/IMAP on Exchange 2010 here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996347(v=exchg.141).aspx

Btw, did you consider OWA as an alternative?

Thanks Damrid,

My question is what will be the pop and IMAP address of my exchange server? is these addresses will be hosted to my hosting company just like my MX record?

OWA is also disabled as per our policy.

You can give any names you like, as long as you have these hosts in your DNS. MX record is mandatory to have, so your server can receive emails. For example, pop3.company.com can be the name for POP3 protocol, and this name should map to an IP address (or host) where you have port for POP3 open.
