Exchange setup for 2 sites
Hi,We have 2 offices in different cities, connected with a 10mbps mpls connection. We currently use Domino, but planning to migrate to exchange 2003 soon. I would like to ask you guys for advice/best-practice setup scenario in this case. What we want is:
- We want to install 2 exchange servers, one in each site.
- Users in each location should access their mailboxes on the local exchange server
- In case one exchange server crashes, all the users should still be able to access their mail, calendar on the other server.
Can anyone give me a short info about how i should setup the exchange servers, or a link to some article/guide based on similar scenario?
Thanks in advance.

Hi MAQ
The configuration should be relatively straightforward. You would need to think about DC/GC availability in both sites too. Here's a link to some information to get you started:

Your third bullet point is trickier. This type of functionality is not available natively with Exchange 2003, although some 3rd party options can help. Is there any reason why you don't consider going to Exchange 2007? The Clustered Continuous Replication (CCR) would go a long way towards meeting your requirement.

Hi Tony,
Thank you for your answer, i just saw the links you mentioned, and i think CCR is exactly what we need. I'm just a little afraid of Exchange 2007, its very new, and usually we wait using a software until SP1 is released for that. I have also heard that there are stability problems with Windows 2003 server on Xeon EM64T processor. I'm not sure what problems there are, but our hardware vendor warned us when i ordered 2 servers with EM64T and mentioned that i'm thinking of installingwin x64.
How about replication in Exchange 2003? Isn't there anything built-in? I read somewhere about Syncronous and Asyncronous replication. Do you think that is something we could use?
Thanks again for your help.
Regards
MAQ
