Exchange taking hours/days to create a mailbox
Hi, I'm finding that when I create a new distribution group, it creates the SMTP immediately, but it takes hours or days before the X400 box appears and users are able to view it in their global address book. Is there any reason this is happening? Can I force an update somehow? Thanks! (This is Exchange 2003 Standard SP2 on Windows 2003.)

I guess that you are running Outlook in cached mode?If so, it uses the Offline Address Book. OAB is created on a scheduled basis on Exchange server and then outlook must download it.Default setting will create the OAB early morning. The normal flow is that you create a mailenabled object on day 1, OAB is rebuild in the night/morning and outlook then downloads the OAB when it starts next morning or day 2.You can rebuild the OAB by manully doing so, right click and click on rebuild. Next must outlook download the new OAB files. There is menu option for downloading OAB.lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com

Turns out it was an Active Directory replication issue when they go so slow. In my case, it was Exchange that had an incorrect entry in the "Recipient update services" under Domain Controller.
