Exmerge query
HiOur HR department has asked that we make a copy of a user's Exchange 2003 mailbox. This should be a *copy* not an extract, i.e any data taken from the Exchange server must be copied only, the original data should remain so that the user can continue to access his mailbox fine. The copied data should be presented to HR in the form of a PST file.I guess we have to use Exmerge, but I'm not sure of the exact steps, and don't want to accidentally remove data from the server! Can anyone help and also confirm that Exmerge leaves the original data (i.e. emails in the mailbox) intact and only makes a copy of the data?

This should help you take backup of a mailbox into pst using ExMerge... Brick Level Backup of Mailboxes by using EXMERGE http://www.petri.co.il/brick_level_backup_of_mailboxes_by_using_exmerge.htm Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

Thanks Amit..So,I will follow the section; "I still want to use a Brick-level backup. How do I do that?" in your link.Just to confirm - these won't actually remove any mails from the original mailbox, they will just copy them? Once I take the PST, the user won't be missing any emails etc?

Yes, that's correct section... Yes, it doesn't delete any data from mailbox. If you a step in below image, it says "The messages and folders for mailboxes on the source Exchange server are copied into Personal Folders (.PST files)." http://www.petri.co.il/images/exmerge_del14.gifAmit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
