External Autodiscover and Outlook Anywhere issues!

Hi guys,

We have a pre-pilot environment set up where everything seems fine except one thing.

The netbiosname of the domain is in this example companyname

If we start Outlook from an external network logging in with my test account with is testuser@company.com, autodsicover works and outlook anywhere works...outlook is automatically configured and connects just fine after I enter companyname\testuser and my password.

testuser@company.com is both my emailaddress and upn. its the same.

But if i try to connect with example ben.smith@company.com with has bsmith@company.com as UPN i cannot enter the credentials companyname\bsmith. I keep getting the basic auth screen, guessing that it tries to get the autodiscover.xml file.

if I change the primary SMTP from ben.smith@company.com to the same as the upn (bsmith@company.com) it works like a charm.

Exchange Best Practice Analyzer (EXBPA) says that everything is fine, all green.

I can browse https://mail.company.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx and logon with companyname\bsmith

I can browse https://autodiscover.company.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml and logon with companynam\bsmith

How come I cannot get Outlook to retrieve the files and that I have to have primary SMTP = upn for it to work?

If I enter the upn it should work right? eventhough I have another primary SMTP?

Hello,

Outlook Anywhere users can only login in the following two ways:
1) domain\username
2) UPN

When the SMTP address does not match the login domain, we may consider adding a new UPN suffix to the domain from Active Directory Domains and Trusts.

Hi again,

But something is wrong here...

My domain is called userdomain or userdomain.se for instance.

If I specify alex.westwood@userdomain.se as smtp address and when I try to logon using luleadomain\awestwood (which is the upn) I cant get through.

but If I change my primary SMTP from alex.westwood@userdomain.se to the same as the upn (awestwood@lulea.se) I can logon using luleadomain\awestwood
