Filter outgoing email
Hi All, I hope someone can help me sort out this issue. We have 4 .net applications sending email notifications to the clients using exchange server 2003. The problem is, in non-production environments these applications sometime send email notifications to the clients, while the applications are being tested in Dev or QA environments. In Dev and QA, email addresses are updated according to the environments, but sometime due to script failures or due to some other issues, email notification still goes out to clients. We don’t want to block all email notification in non-production, the email notifications should only go to testers and developers, but never to the clients. To fix this issue, one solution which came up was to - setup another exchange server for non-production environment and filter outgoing email. That way we don’t have to make changes in 4 applications. Solution steps: 1. Setup separate exchange server for non-production environment i.e. one exchange server for DEV and QA. a. Can 2 exchange servers can be installed in same domain? b. What version of Exchange server should be installed? c. Is setting up Exchange server a big deal (i.e. $ and effort)? 2. Add filter in exchange server for outgoing email, so that emails only go to legit email addresses a. Create white list of email addresses, to which emails can be send from non-production environment(this white list will have email addresses of QA testers and developers) b. The white list should be saved on the network, so that QA testers can update email addresses 3. Add filter in exchange server to filter out all outgoing emails except the email addresses in the white list a. If outgoing email is blocked, will the .net application get error (email not send error)? Is the above solution doable OR is there another better, cleaner way to achieve this?? Help! Please!
