Formulas in custom columns of a data-generated Table are deleted when the data refresh returns zero rows (Excel 2010)

Hi

I have a table populated by a XML data connection, to which I've added some custom columns with formulas.

The data connection is set to overwrite the table data.

As long as the data connection returns rows, everything is fine. Formulas in the custom columns are replicated in all rows.

But if the data connection returns zero rows, I'm left with a "mock" empty row in the table, and formulas in the custom colums are lost. Completely and instantly gone without confirmation.

Subsequent data refreshes returning rows repopulate the table but with the custom columns still empty.

Because I saved my workbook in a "clean" state, I managed to undo a day's worth of work in this way.

Is this "by design" as usual?
