Forward unresolved recipients to another server
Howdy,We have Exchange 2007 running and back in Exchange 2003 there was an option to forward any unresolved email addresses to another server. I need this functionality in 2007. I'm dealing with a single domain, domain.com. Can I have an email user@domain.com, which isn't on my exchange server and send it over to another server which is not using exchange, just another SMTP service. Is this possible in 2007?Thanks,David Lozzi Delphi Technology Solutions SharePoint Blog | LinkedIn | Twitter ** SharePoint users be aware! The command "stsadm -o uninstall" works, and it doesn't warn you, it simply uninstalls SharePoint! It happened to me!

Change the Accepted Domain type of domain, com to "Internal Relay Domain", and set up a send connector specific to that domain (address space = domain.com), and set the other smtp server as it's smarthost relay. When it receives an email for that domain, Exchange will then first check to see if it has a mailbox for that address. If it does it will deliver it there. If it doesn't, it will send it on to the other server using that send connector.

Hi, This phenomenon is called Split Domain in Mail Server terminology. You can setup Split Domain Routing so that you are able to deliver emails to the new mail server while maintaining your original configuration. In addition, you may want to setup a POP/IMAP server for all of the other employees who do not need Exchange access. In EMC, go to Accepted Domains tab on the OrganizationConfiguration. Find your domain and change the domain to an Internal Relay domain. Once you have this set, go to your Send Connectors and add a new send connector as an Internet connector. Click next, Add a new SMTP Address Space. In the Address field, type in your domain. Click next, Add a smart host server. Point the smart host to either your IP address or FQDN for your new server. Done. Now when a message arrives at the Receive Connector, it will be either routed to the mailbox if it exists in exchange organization, or the Send Connector for delivery to your alternate mail server.
