Get-OutlookAnywhere path missing
I'm having problems with the SBS 2008 Autodiscover and OutlookAnhwhere config. While Outlook Anywhere seems to be working for mailbox connectivity I cannot access the Out of Office functionality or download the address book. While checking all settings, I notice the following error when looking at the output from Get-OutlookAnhwhere: [PS] C:\Users\administrator.***\Desktop>Get-OutlookAnywhere|fl WARNING: IIS://AUDIO.***.local/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Rpc was not found. Please make sure you have typed it correctly. ServerName : AUDIO SSLOffloading : False ExternalHostname : mail.***.com ClientAuthenticationMethod : Basic IISAuthenticationMethods : {Basic} MetabasePath : IIS://AUDIO.***.local/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Rpc Path : Server : AUDIO AdminDisplayName : ExchangeVersion : 0.1 (8.0.535.0) Name : Rpc (Default Web Site) DistinguishedName : CN=Rpc (Default Web Site),CN=HTTP,CN=Protocols,CN= AUDIO,CN=Servers,CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT),CN=Administrative Groups,CN=Firs t Organization,CN=Microsoft Exchange,CN=Services,C N=Configuration,DC=***,DC=local Identity : AUDIO\Rpc (Default Web Site) Guid : aba29e07-2f48-47f4-b921-060c4c1b8717 ObjectCategory : ***.local/Configuration/Schema/ms-Exch-Rpc-Http-Vi rtual-Directory ObjectClass : {top, msExchVirtualDirectory, msExchRpcHttpVirtual Directory} WhenChanged : 1/5/2010 5:30:39 PM WhenCreated : 1/5/2010 5:30:39 PM OriginatingServer : AUDIO.***.local IsValid : True When comparing this to other servers I see that the MetabasePath is correct, but the Path value is blank. I can't seem to find a way to enter the correct value (c:\windows\system32\rpcproxy). I don't know if this is causing my problems, but I assume it is somehow related because other servers do not have this missing Path value. I have already disabled and re-enabled Outlook Anywhere but this made no change to the output of Get-OutlookAnywhere. Do I need to uninstall and re-install the RPC Proxy feature? Thanks in advance. -Michael

A quick update, I found that if I put a virtual directory in the Default website it will resolve this error but Autodiscover is still not configuring the clients. This is SBS 2008, so I need the metabase path to show SBS Web Applications and not Default Web Site.

You are quite right that on an Exchange Client Access Server, you won’t get a warning with Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl. You’ll also see a path:
Path : C:\Windows\System32\RpcProxy
But on SBS, the output will be like this (my SBS box at home):
[PS] C:\>Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl
WARNING: IIS://SBSBOX.wxyz.local/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Rpc was not found. Please make sure
you have typed it correctly.
ServerName : SBSBOX
SSLOffloading : False
ExternalHostname : remote.mydomain.net
ClientAuthenticationMethod : Basic
IISAuthenticationMethods : {Basic}
MetabasePath : IIS://SBSBOX.wzyz.local/W3SVC/1/ROOT/Rpc
Path :
Server : SBSBOX
This is normal, since SBS is not using the Default Web Site. The explanation why Autodiscover is not working and the Offline Address Book cannot be downloaded, must be found elsewhere.Does Autodiscover work on the inside (Ctrl+Right Click the Outlook icon in the Notification Area, Test E-mail AutoConfiguration)?Do all your users experience this problem?Have you tried to log on to another machine and see if it works there with your account?Actually, I just had the problem that Autodiscover did not work with Outlook (it worked with another program) and that the OAB did not download. I ended up deleting my Windows profile (tried first with deleting the Outlook profile). After recreating the Windows profile, everything was fine.
