Groupwise against Microsoft evaluation
Can some one send me points defending exchange to the points below
Security is pivotal for any email system, the reported vulnerabilities - GroupWise (9), Lotus Notes (72), Exchange(357) - are self explanatory.
Novell GroupWise works on edirectory, which is rated as one of the most secure directories available.
Microsoft solution will be 30% more costly compared to a novell solution.
This is even without giving any price advantage for additional facilities like SUSE Linux desktop license, Desktop management software, etc.
GroupWise client to server communication is encrypted by default.
Novell mobility server ( developed jointly by novell and nokia) has the support for the widest range of hand-helds available today.
Blackberry enterprise server with 5 user is provided free with GroupWise.
Multi Platform support - GroupWise works on Novell, Windows & Linux Platforms.
Cross-Platform client support , Even outlook client is supported Extensive status tracking is possible . Status tracking is possible even between 2 separate GroupWise systems connected through external domain.
In Exchange an administrator can enter any users mailbox and view the mails, where as in GroupWise unless the proper password is provided, access to a users mailbox is not possible.
The approach declared by most of the messaging solution vendors is to have most of their normal client features available on their webclient. Novell in their new version has progressed substantially in this direction. There is even a thin client option now on webaccess.

**I know this is long, but it does have a point, please read it, hear my roar**If i buy 1 lottery ticket I could win. If I buy 1,000,000 lottery tickets I could still win and have more chances to do so.You said ..."Security
is pivotal for any email system, the reported vulnerabilities -
GroupWise (9), Lotus Notes (72), Exchange(357) - are self explanatory." self explanatory....??? maybe.... The problem I have always had with this statistic is that there is no "control" Test results like Experiments are nothing without a control or a baseline to gage them on. These numbers represent the number of "reported vulnerabilities", you can get a reported vulnerability on eBay for $1.99, the shipping is $18 flat-rate US only though. It make no mention of how many attempts were made on each messaging system to obtain those numbers. Surely Gartner didn't sit X number of hackers, slackers, & geeks in a controlled environment for X number of days to get these results. No these are like Hallmark Holidays....created for the masses and what sounds good on tv. Hypothetically, I am jo3 h@k3r and i want to find and expose a vulnerability for no real reason other than my own ego... where do i get the most glory....GroupWise....??? nah...cracking a mail system based off of WordPerfect carries no street cred. Notes...??? Notes is still an email system? I missed the memo. Why crack it open, the last 25 users still on Notes will just wind up installing Exchange anyway because hey...its the fashionable thing these days.... That leaves me with Exchange, better yet Outlook. There is a novel idea, this will be cool and easy. I will just take what the last guy did and change a letter here and add a wingding there, maybe call it Melissa instead of I love you, better yet the last one they called a trojan horse, I will call this one a worm. Wait til the 12 sided dice clan gets a load of this one, it will blow up the blogs......</rant>scratch that, rant on!My point is this....1000 people probably tried to crack GroupWise and Notes combined and they mostly consisted of companies who are hired to do this, research firms who find these holes and then sell that info the vendor for profit, and die hard geeks who are set out to help improve those systems for some bizarre attraction they have to those products because they probably lost thier virginity to installation e-manuel. (hehe)100,000 people probably tried to crack Exchange in a feable attempt to slay the collective known only as Microsoft. Some even believe that what one man created....another man can destroy. These people grew up on D&D, Role Playing Games, and Miniature Battle figurines. I think they actually believe they are doing justice. The optimist in me see that Microsoft simply has a force of geeks working around the clock helping them debug thier code and they're not even on the payroll.....There I said it. All that and believe it or not I have been a Netware/GroupWise administrator almost my entire career so far. 13 years later and I have finally been asimilated. We are migrating to the dark side.My name is Todd Seagraves and I support this ad.<stepping down from soapbox (which by the way has a certificate of authenticity sticker on it)>Bill, please send me that check i was promised for all of the emails that I forwared on to people. I figure I have about $68,000 with interest coming to me. Email me and I will send you my mailing address.**my comments in this email were made for satireical effect only. they were not intended as slander or to discredit any of the wonderfully successful companies or sensative geeks mentioned. And besides *** them if they can't take a joke. **
