Hardware Specs for a 2007 Exchange server?
Hi Everyone,We are in the process of designing a "Microsoft" based network which will replace an existing Red Hat one. As part of that, I have been given the task to spec out hardware for a Microsoft Exchange 2007 server. Our intention is to have 1 Active Directory domain controller on its own separate machine and 1 exchange server on a single machine. We current have around 60 active users that will need to move but are planning for expansion therefore this system will be based on a 100 user requirement. We plan to have a mailbox quota where the maximum size would be 3GB. In terms of the Microsoft specific research I have been doing, the majority of our users would fall into the "Average" category in terms of usage. So with that said, I have specked the following server from Dell. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated in terms of what we have come up with. I'm trying to make sure that we will have a solid system. Hello,- It would be better to create single partition per LUN.- Keep DBs & Logs on different LUNs for better performance.-RAID-1/0 is preferable over RAID-5.- Keep 1 mailbox DB in a storage group for better recovery and to implement high availability solution like LCR or SCR at later stage.- Microsoft recommends to keep DB size to maximum 100GB (200GB with LCR/CCR enabled) so plan accordingly and create multiple DBs of maximum 100GB of size.Storage Technologyhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb738146.aspxPlanning Storage Configurationshttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124518.aspxAmit Tank | MVP - Exchange | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
