Help writing an Excel Formula to copy rows...

In my mind this sounds like it should be easy...

See example below for what I am trying to do.

So I want it to go down a colum and copy the same letter again and again to fill blank cells until it reaches a cell that is poplulated and start the process over again..  (Cells are text only)

These are text only cells.

Excel   example  (Before and after)

1  A
2
3  D
4
5
6  F
7
8

End Results

1  A
2  A
3  D
4  D
5  D
6  F
7  F
8  F

Re:  "Fill in blanks with data above"

Select the data in the column you want to fill.
Use "Go To Special" - On the Ribbon:   Home(tab) | Editing(group) | Find & Select(dropdown)
Choose "Blanks"
In the formula bar, enter:  =C3   (C3 is the cell directly above the topmost blank cell)
Hold down the Ctrl key and press the Enter key once
Copy your data and paste Values over it (replaces formulas with data)
