Hiding DL with External Email Address from All GAL but visible to specific Users/Recipients
I got a ticket logged to CSC Technical Support: It requested that a email group be created [Windows Server 2003/Exchange Server 2003] enlisting users with external email addresses (I already done this); however, a follow-up request has been raised to have specific email users view this DL/Email Group thus hiding this DL/Email Group from All GAL BUT NOT from this SPECIFIC Users. How do I go about this? Do I need to created a Security Group as I have seen suggested in other forums? How do I accomplish this request? I need to complete this by Monday (July 26th), this is a request from a Very VIP Person from a Company. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I belive this could be done using GPO but i don't have idea how to do it. You can restrict some users to access this DL by create a security group including all users except for those that need to access this DL and see the membership of the group, added this group to the security of the distribution group, and denied all access.Anil

Can't be done via GPO. You have two options. 1. Create two replacement GALs - one that hides this group from everyone and one that doesn't. Major negative points - very high failure rate and no longer supported by Microsoft. 2. Get everyone who needs to use this group to add the group to their personal contacts (Right click and choose Add to Contacts) then hide it from the GAL. Option 2 is about the only one available to you. Option 1 is not something I would recommend and certainly not something that can be deployed without extensive testing in a lab as it requires blocking access to the default GAL and then extensive permissions changes. The Microsoft article on the process was removed because of its high failure rate - get it wrong and you could be looking at a complete reinstall of Exchange and all attributes, permissions etc. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP. http://blog.sembee.co.uk , http://exbpa.com/
