High RPC latency to connect DC
Hi,A user in a remote site reported that he has a slow performance of Outlook 2007. When we opened the connection status of his outlook client, we got the following figures:

All Outlook client are cache mode enabled. DC31, DC33 are DC, VXM01A is Exchnage 2007 mailbox server, VXPF01 is Exhcnage 2007 mailbox server which stores public folder. From the avg resp of mailbox server, it is <500ms and the outlook performance is expected to be OK, am I correct? But whyare the avg resp values so high for those DCs?? Isit related to the poor performance?-- Kurtz

Is DC31 is also a GC? looks like delay is from DC31 and I would also check from EMC to find out to Exchange is pointing out to which Configuration DC? You can also run below tool

Are all the domain controllers in the same site as Exchange?Which DC is in the site with the user?I would start by looking at your configuration of Sites and Services and verify that you have that configured correctly. Managing directory replicationhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc758663(WS.10).aspxIf the user is authenticating against a DC that is in another state when the user should be going against a DC in her office then you have a problem with Sites and Services. Also keep in mind that Exchange requires a GC in the same AD site as Exchagne. The listed DCs, i.e. DC31 and DC33 are in the same site as Exchange. For the user in remote site, there is another DC, VDC31. DC31 is the GC which is in the same site as Exchange. Any idea? Isit related to the DC costs??

It could be. I have seen performance issues that appear to be exchange related but are Domain Controller related. How many DCs/GCs are in the same site as Exchange? What about the user site? You do have multiple AD Sites configured in Active Directory then? Also, what kind of hardware is that DC running on? is it Virtual? How much memory?SF - MCITP:EMA, MCTS

Yes, we have multiple AD sites. 3DCs are in the same site as Exchange and 1 of them is GC. Only 1 site link is created between the Exchange site and the remote site. For the remote site, the DC is running in a Microsoft virtual server with 4Gb RAM. Any direction to handle the case??

What's the GC like in the Exchange site?Would you be able to deploy a second GC in the same site as Exchange? How many users in your environment? Also, how big is the pipe to the remote site? You may not be able to support the communication taking place between the remote site and Exchange.SF - MCITP:EMA, MCTS

Hi Kurtz,
I suggest you use network monitor to capture the network traffic on both side. Then check the result, if the client send the MSRPC package but the server doesn't receive it in time. It can be a network issue. If the server receive it in time, but wait a long time to response, it's a performance issue of server.

Hi,
You could also use EMC | Toolbox | Performance Troubleshooter, the tool can help you identify possible causes for the RPC issue.
