How distribution group modification from Exchange are replicated?
I have 2 domains and use Exchange 2010 SP3.

When I add a member in a distribution list from Mailbox server I did not see it replicate in HUB/CAS  server and AD yet. It takes around 10 min but all Exchange servers are in same site with one DC from each domain. How the replication between Exchange servers nd DC are processed for AD group members modification?

Hi ,

1.I thought you are having multiple domains in your active directory forest .First we need to make sure the replication part between the domain controllers residing on those domains.

repadmin /replsummary

2.Then on the exchange servers please monitor the event id 2080 which would tells you more details about the communication between your domain controllers and exchange server.

3.Then please don't have any static domain controllers configuration's on your exchange servers.

Hi Samata,

Distribution lists are managed as Global / Universal groups - if you used EAC to create it, they are created as Universal groups only.So you need to check 2 components: Global catalog replication as well as the Exchange Active Directory connector service.

If your GC is on the same AD site as you did the change, you will find the change after the Exchange Active Directory connector service noticed the change. PLease see your log to see how ofter it reviewed - by default every 15 mins.

If your client is not located on the same AD site, you need to add AD replication delay, and again you need to wait  for the Exchange Active Directory connector service.

There may be additional delay in case you are running in cache-mode and your client did not download the address book yet.

Regards,
Martin

No I don't have any replication issue and all my DCs are GC.

So within 15 min makes sense. So if I understand well we need to wait after: Exchange Active Directory connector service?

I thought that change update right away in DC:-)

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply.

What happens when you done the same changes through active directory console .Does the change happened on the group reflects immediately on the exchange servers console as well as on the active directory side?

If not , please do the force replication and check the results.

All DCs on same site update the change fast but not the Exchange servers.

For example if I add user in Dist Group in Mailbox server it will not replicate fast like in DC before I can see the update in CAS server.

Hi ,

Thanks for your reply.

1.Then on the exchange servers please monitor the event id 2080 which would tells you more details about the communication between your domain controllers and exchange server.

2.Then please don't have any static domain controllers configured on your exchange servers.Exchange should have to choose and use the domain controllers in a dynamic manner.

Ya but if as Martin mentioned if all depend of "Exchange Active Directory connector service" that make sense if it takes around 15 min.
