How is BCC treated by Exchange?
Hi all,
Question, I have a user who needs to send an email to a large number of people, ~500. I've got a 3rd party option but would like to know if there is a recommended way to do this without.
First thought that comes to mind would be something like put 50 email addresses in the BCC field and send out 10 messages. If you put messages in the BCC field, those addresses technically show up in the RCPT TO: header of the message correct? So one message
will look like it has 50 recipients. Am I correct in this?
Is there any additional overhead incurred by this instead of say, using a 3rd party program that addresses each email individually?
And finally, is there a general rule of thumb about the number of recipients that should be included in one message?
Thanks for any insight!

Exchange is a poor bulk emailing tool. If you have a third party option then I would use it. They are designed to deal with a single message sent to a large number of users.
Exchange has no throttling capabilities, and unless you use a smart host, will attempt to send each message individually. This can mean you trip some incoming MTAs antispam mechanisms.
