How many storage groups is best practice for 2007?
Hi all,We run Exchange 2007 on Windows 2003 R2 servers. I remember reading that it is best practice to have one Mail Database per Storage group. I was wondering, is there a best practice for how many Storage Groups you should have? I ask because we currently have 6 storage groups (each with one mail database) that totals 430GB of mail. A couple of the database are getting close to 100GB and I want to split them up, so I figured I'd make some new Storage groups and move some of the mail into the new storage groups. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Your plan is perfect, make new SG and move some of the mailboxes to keep the database size below 100GB of suggested best practices size without DR plan (with CCR or any other method it is 200GB).You can have maximum 50 storage groups and there isn't any recommendation on limiting it. You just have to manage the transaction logs accordingly.Amit TankMVP: Exchange Server | MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, Configuration | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: MBlog: http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com | User Group:http://MUC-UG.org.in
