How to Delete Server under Exchange Administrative Group
Hi,I recently did an Exchange 2003(Server 2003) to 2007(Server 2008) migration(different box). During the transition, I had to reinstall the Exchange 2007 from 2008 server because of some problems. I had to remove the 2008 server from the domain and re-join using a different name. Now, I noticed that when I go to the Exchange 2003 "Exchange Administrative Group", I can see both the old and new name of the Server 2008(EXSVR01 and EXSVR). When I try to Delete the old server from the list(from the Exchange 2003 System manager), it disappears but when I refresh it goes back again. I also tried right-clicking on it and go to All Task > Remove Server but nothing happens. From the Exchange 2007 Console, I can see the old server name as well but has no options to delete it. Everything is running fine now for the new Exchange and it is also activated, the old one prompts me to activate which I didn't. Does any one know how to remove it from the list before I uninstall the old Exchange 2003?Thanks!

If removing it from the GUI isn't working, then it would need to be cleaned up from AD using ADSIEdit.Fair warning, you could break a lot of stuff poking around and deleting carelessly.

HelloDo you still have this server listed also in ADUC? Andy's suggestion will probably do it..Go to Adsiedit.msc and scroll tot he container where the server was and delete all its objects frm the rootIsaac Oben MCITP:EA, MCSE

Before I reformatted the new server, I unjoin it from the domain. So it does not show up on the AD anymore. I was actually thinking what Andy suggest but Im afraid of any problems that might occur. Anyone knows how to safely remove this from ADSI edit, Where to find it or any microsoft article I can read regarding this?

Hi Richard,I have not found/or deleted it yet. Need to be extra carefull with this.Update:I do not see the old server name from ADSIEdit. Not sure wether I can just uninstall the Exchange 2003 straight away since the 2007 is working. But on the 2007 I also see the server which prompts me to activate so I just ignore it as the other server(new name) is working and activated.
