How to Shrink the Exchange 2007 Mailbox Database?

Here you go:

Note that your database will be offline during this procedure. I usually recommend migrating the mailboxes to a new database and deleting the old one.Tim Harrington | MVP: Exchange | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010, MCITP: Lync 2010, MCITP: Server 2008, MCTS: OCS | Blog: http://HowDoUC.blogspot.com | Twitter: @twharrington

Hi,
There are two types of defragmentation available: Online and Offline. Online defragmentaion occurs automatically at every night by default. Offline defragmentation can be done by running eseutil with /d switch. For offline defrag, dismount the databse first
and run defragmentationRegards from www.windowsadmin.info

Hi Tommy
The guide Tim suggested is for shrinking the database file. When an offline defragmentation is run the eseutil frees up whitespaces and releases the space on the harddrive.
I also tend to use this guide on msexchange.org:
http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Exchange-ISINTEG-ESEUTIL.html
It explains the same as the article Tim wrote about, but it has some nice screenshots as well :)

Hi tommy,
Any updates?
You can use Eseutil /d /t to "defragment the Exchange database but have the temporary file on another logical drive.
If the logical drive is accessible over a network connection, this can affect the amount of time that it will take defragment the database."
Details, please see:
