what are the roles installed on this server? so if u have mailbox role on standalone box and u have no high availability feature, then when u bring down the services users wont eb able to access their mailbox just stopping the exchange services and disabling them would do. but again this depends on how the server is setup for and you have to make sure that if this server goes down that u failover the ccr etc., or u have another cas server which can take up this load etc., Thiyagu | MCTS/MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE 2003[Messaging] | http://www.myExchangeWorld.com. Agree with Thiyagu, Its loking you have single node with mailbox server role. In this situation you must stop all exchange service first then shutdown your server. Just stop first service "MS Exchange AD Topology" and then stop remain services. Don't forget to take full backup of your server before proceed. Good Luck !Anil
