All that you have to go through?
Insert > Page Number? Doesn't seem like a lot from here.
Version of Word?
You can add a page number to any location with Alt+Shift+P.
In recent versions, you can add a button to the QAT. Right-click on the Page Number button or one of it's sub commands and tell Word to Add to the QAT.

Modifying the QAT and Ribbon in Microsoft Word
The quickest way to add page numbers so that it repeats on several pages is the following: Double-click the header or footer to activate the header/footer area. Place the insertion point where you want the page number and then press Alt+Shift+P.
I have Word Pro 2007.
1. Is there shortcut to activate the header/footer area as it seems Double click will not work.
2. It works Alt+Shift+P but not my defined Pagination.

How to do it?
1. It's usually easier to double-click the header than the footer (at least in some versions of Word). But the result will be the same, that is, the header/footer view will be active. Be careful so that you don't inadvertently double-click above the page edge, in which case Word will show/hide the white space between pages instead.
2. Explain what you are trying to do. Note that if you want to change number format or restart page numbers, you do that in the Page Number Format dialog box (Insert tab | Page Number | Format Page Numbers). The settings in that dialog box applies to the current section. If you want to restart numbering, add a section break. For more on this, see http://wordfaqs.mvps.org/FrontMatterRibbon.htm.

As Stefan pointed out, try double-clicking in the Header area in Word 2007.
You can add a keyboard shortcut to go into the header or footer if you want. These commands can also be added to the QAT.
The screenshot attached shows adding a keyiboard shortcut.
There are also Edit Header and Edit Footer commands available in the Insert category (corresponding to Insert | Header | Edit Header and Insert | Footer | Edit Footer).
