How to change the Outlook account associated with Lync client without deleting and re-creating it!
I have 2 Exchange accounts, one that's local and the other is on the cloud! and I have one Lync account! I always use my exchange account which is on the cloud and the credentials is different from my Lync account, a while ago I activated unified messaging on my Local exchange server and all of a sudden my Lync started saving all the conversation history to the Exchange on the cloud! Also the missed calls and even Voice Mail works externally so people could send me VM messages. After I activated my local Exchange with CA signed certificate and assigned all the services to it including Unified Messaging! I started getting the X sign on Lync that says Lync is experiencing issues with outlook ...etc On a different machine I setup my Local exchange account and signed in with Lync "Both have the same Credentials" and now I see the conversation history folder is setup on my local exchange account and I'm also getting voice mail "If I voice mailed my self locally where is Exchange server is located". So my question is basically how do I get Lync to change back to the exchange account which is on the cloud to start saving conversations on it and getting voice mail too ? I was only able to do this if I deleted my account from Exchange, Lync Server and Active Directory and re-created it. Any other ways to do this? Thanks Mohammed JH

Hi, You are experiencing a problem that has been fixed in the latest cumulative update (KB2684739) for Lync that was released in March. So, if you haven't patched your client, is time to do so :) Description of the update for Lync 2010: March 2012 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2684739 If you have any further questions, I suggest that you post in the Lync Forum to get better help. I already have it! the only way to solve the issue was when I totally deleted my account and re-created it into a new windows profile! otherwise it won't. the latest version that I have is 4.0.7577.4087Mohammed JH

You never tried to delete the folder "Conversation History" before you decided to recreate your account? The version number doesn't say much, cause even with the cumulative update from July 2011 (just an example), it would have the same number in Add/Remove Program Martina Miskovic

Not really I never tried, The thing is my Exchange which I officially use is different from my Lync but I'm not sure how Lync connected to it and started all of a sudden to save the conversation history to it! I just recall that I got once a security pop up and I remember that it was about A certificate that probably belongs to this exchange account! and also my credentials. I have seen this addressed by one of MS KB and the resolution to it takes lot of time! esp that it asks you to uninstall Office, Uninstall Lync, Create new windows Profile and then re-installing Office and Lync.. It's like you're reformatting the whole PC. and I already have around 15 persons who are having the same issue. If you think deleting the conversation history would solve it! I will give it a try.. Yes, a lot of work but I have seen the problem myself and with the lastes hotfix and deleting the folder solved it for me. Give it a try and let us the outcome. This is not something we can solve in Exchange and/or Outlook, so if it doesn't work for you, I think it's a good idea to ask in the Lync Forum.Martina Miskovic

Martina, Thanks a lot it worked! even though on Lync it didn't show the conversation but when I double checked it was a misconfiguration on my TMG firewall! in most of the documentation it says that when I publish Outlook anywhere I have to setup TMG authentication to basic. and when I checked another thread here it says that Autodiscover services shouldn't have authentication enabled on TMG as it already have on IIS on exchange server so setting the OA rule to no authentication did the trick and I can see the status of both EWS and MAPI connection are OK. The other problem is even if I moved conversation to another folder within the inbox your solution won't work unless I permanently delete it. but at least it works as a work around.
