How to enable outgoing mails without Exchange?
I have some closed Environment without Exchange installed. I have on DC there and SharePoint 2010 Server installed. I have an option to configure in SharePoint Outgoing Server, there i can set SMTP Server Name and after my SharePoint can send mails. My question is: can i install on my ShrePoint server SMTP Server Service, that will we able to send mails to Internet Addresses? Thanks.

Yes, you can install another mail service on SharePoint server. You can either install SMTP or any other third party mail servers like MailEnable, SmarterMail, htmail, atmail, etc. SMTP is bundled with IIS on your server which you have to install, but SMTP have very less features to manage, where as MailEnable and SmarterMail both are best mail servers having quite good features like managing email accounts, spam control, etc. Standard edition of MailEnable is free so you can go with it.
