Can you run the Test-ExchangeSearch <DB-Name> cmdlet and see if it gives you any useful information? I don't have an E2K7 server right in front of me right now, so I can't test this.
I have never had to rebuild an E2K7 index and could not find any "official" guidance on this, so this is a bit of a guess, but try this:
1) Stop the search service
2) Delete the catalog files under the database in question
3) Restart the search service
If that does not do it, then try this:
1) Disable indexing for the database
Set-MailboxDatabase <DB-Name> -IndexEnabledFalse
2) Stop the search service
3) Delete the catalog files
4) Restart the search service
5)Stop the search service
6) Enable indexing again
Set-MailboxDatabase <DB-Name> -IndexEnabledTrue
7) Start the search service again
