I have a request from my customer to setup individual email accounts for several departments in the orgnisation where they only have access to a group email account. The idea is so that there is accountability on messages being sent from the group mail boxes. The problem I have is that the there is a lack of trust on the individuals that will get their own email account (email abuse) and so we need to stop them from sending emails from their own accounts. I have found that if you restrict their account from sending mails externally on the exchange 2003 server, despite the fact they have send as permsions on the group maill box for their respective accounts, they cannot send emails on behalf of the group mail box so long as the primary account in the Outlook 2007 client is their own account.I get the feeling this is not possible and that my only solution here is to keep the users accessing the group mail box as their primary account. But how then do Iaddress the accountabilty issue. Is there anyone out there that might have had a similar issue. Can Anyone suggest a solution for this. Please help.We are running Exchnage 2003 and Outlook 2007.

You can create a DL for non internet users and set restriction on SMTP connector to reject message from the member of that group, refer below article for further detail.... Hi AmitThanks for the responce. This is something I did put into place and it does restrict the user sending mail externally. However in addition to this I would like the user to then be able to send email externally on behalf of a group address. But I think it seems that when you use the send from option in Outlook and specify an address that the individual can send mail on behalf of, it is still restricted because Exchange uses the primary account to send the email. Have you put the restrictiion inplace mentioned in article? You need to restart IIS & SMTP service once it is configured. About send on behalf of, actually you need to setup send-as permission instead of send on behlaf of option, for the user so mail goes as from group mailbox email address.
