Hybrid Deployment Questions

Hi

Just a question one of our customers have currently 1 x cas and 2x mbx servers with a kemp loadbalancer. We are planning a hybrid exchange. I was going to install a new server cas+mbx to use has a regular cas server for HA and for hybrid deployment. My understanding is that i only need to add a new url for ex : hybrid.mydomain.com. Is this correct? By doing this it will still act as a cas and hybrid server correct?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

Every Exchange 2013 server includes Hybrid functionality, so you dont usually need to install additional servers to fulfil this role. Existing servers can and usually should be chosen. The typical servers to choose for Hybrid are the same servers hosting the Client Access role that manage inbound and the same servers hosting the Mailbox role for outbound mail flow. Your primary HTTPS namespaces for Exchange Web Services and AutoDiscover will always be used by default.

Also the easiest and most common option is to use all your on-premises accepted domains as Hybrid domain in Office 365. This ensures that email will be correctly received by Office 365 mailboxes. Meanwhile, to use all of your accepted domains you will need to also configure them as Custom Domains in the Office 365 portal. Any domain configured in Office 365 must be a valid internet domain that your organization owns and controls.

Hi,

The term Exchange Hybrid server is just a logical term that describes Microsoft Exchange server who has the ability to be a part of a Hybrid environment.  You should not limit it to a single server, all the servers in the environment automatically act as a hybrid servers as soon as you run the HCWizard, depending on the role.

Its good to have another CAS for HA concerns. You didn't mention the versions of Exchange you have in the environment.

Go through these first:

One more question i will be using ad connect for sso and AD FS set up from there. Is AD FS needed to be in place prior to running the hybrid Wizard

thanks

Hi Ageless,

Single sign-on   Although not a requirement for hybrid deployments. If you decide to deploy single sign-on with your hybrid deployment, we recommend that you deploy it with Active Directory synchronization and before using the Hybrid Configuration wizard.

1. Hence ADFS is not a pre-requisite, if you plan not to use ADFS\SSO. But if you want ADFS its better to keep it working ready before you start HCW.

2.  hybrid.mydomain.com not mandatory\required, Allen already answered that

"Your primary HTTPS namespaces for Exchange Web Services and AutoDiscover will always be used by default."
