IMAP4 on E2003 Service won't start
This weekend I was involved in an SBSserver swing migration. It involved forklifting the stores and changing LegacyDN, but there were no real issues.
There is only one glitch:
The IMAP4 service won't start, and has never started since the system was set up. After 30 seconds of waiting, it gives an error saying that something was written to the event log, but nothing is written there.
I've turned on Max logging for all IMAP4 areas, including the protocol logging via the registry key,but still not a single event is logged. I've turned on/off SSL requirements, changed certs, used an alternate TCP port, everything I can think of, and still can't get the service to come up. Seems like a deeper issue than what's in the GUI.
This thread describes my problem exactly, but no resolution was provided:

The server runs Symantec AV, but not the Exchange component. I'm also running LCS 2003with archivingand GFI's Mail Archiver. Since I'm not running an Exchange-specific AV or GFI's Mail Essentials/Security, it doesn't seem like I should have an issue introduced from that direction, but I suppose I could be wrong.
Anyone have any ideas on where to go next with this?
Thanks,
Dave Shack

Well, problem goes away if you go to the Services control panel and set the Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service from Disabled to Automatic.... duh.
