IMAP Account Deployment

In an AD environment, I am trying to deploy Office 2013 so that Outlook will create a new profile with a Gmail IMAP account. I can configure the .msp file with the right server configurations, but when it comes to username and email address, they differ for every user.

I could (which is what I attempted) just write anything and the user will be prompted to enter the credentials when they open Outlook, which is fine - the user is prompted for incoming and outgoing (when they send the first email) server username and password. However, the user is not prompted for the email-address, and emails fail to send without the correct email address. If the username is the same as email account I would write something like %username%@mydomain.com in the .msp file? This isn't always the case though. The user's email field in AD is configured with the right email, but there is no email environment variable, right?

Maybe there is something fundamentally wrong with what I am trying to do?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Do you want to archive a result that everyone in your AD can create a new profile for Gmail account when they first lunch to outlook? If so, we just select: use existing profile when we create the .msp file in OCT. By this way, user will be prompted to enter account information: email address, server address, credential, name, etc. when they first lunch to outlook after installation.

Not sure if I got your idea right, if I misunderstood anything, please let me know. Also if I was wrong, I may need you to provide some information:

  1. How did you configure your .msp file?
  2. Do you use exchange as your mail server?

Hope this helps.

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Essentially, I want it so that when AD users login to any computer on the domain, Outlook will already be configured with their Google Apps for Work account. What you suggested above would not work because they will have to setup server addresses, ports, etc. Ideally, the account would be fully configured and they'd open Outlook into a fully working profile, but having them enter the email address and password would be sufficient.

I configured the .msp file using OCT. The configuration is:

Outlook profille>New Profile

Add accounts>IMAP Account (with google's IMAP and SMTP servers configured, and just "username" and "email" for those fields, as they differ for every user - essentially I am trying to automatically populate those fields).

Not using exchange.

Thanks for the help!
