I need to defragment the DBS????
Hi!! I have an infrastructure with Exchange 2003 SP2 Standard in which Outlook users are configured using PST by which emails are downloaded in local, except those users who have BlackBerrys. DBS currently has this size: priv1.edb: 9.80Gb - Priv1.stm: 9.48Gb - pub1.edb: 80MB in the event viewer logs have to show you at the end of the post My questions: 1 .- I need to defragment the DBS offline?. Since it was installed on production servers today, nearly 3 years ago was not completed this process. If so, what steps should I follow and precautions to take?. Time to stop approximately can I have?. Currently, he is very critical of this server and the less the better standing. 2 .- I note that the defragmentation of the DBS are produced in 1:51, 2:00, etc. .. coupled with the backup. I can modify it and where you can get a log of these programs?. THANK YOU!! ------------------------------------------ ------- LOGS ----------------------------------- ------------------------------------------ Event Source: MSExchangeIS Public Store Id. The Exchange 2003 SP2 Standard has a default 18 gb database capacity, and if you exceed that your server services might stop and it makesheadaches. It would be useful to make defragment if you exceed the 18 gb capacity.I was wondering if you increased your database capacity up to 75 gb from regedit? Here is the link how to make defragment process: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Defragmenting-Exchange-Database.html

Hello, I wouldnt recommend you to do offline defragmentation because after defragmentation you are going to recover only 3006mb from your mailbox store as per event log 1221 and online defragmentation (which runs every night as per schedule and register 1221 event in event log at the time of completion) normally do the cleanup and maintenance regularly. It is not recommended to do offline defragmentation unless you removed/moved a lot of mailboxes from an Exchange database file and large amount of free space is available as per event log 1221 or you see any corruption in database. How to defragment Exchange databases http://support.microsoft.com/kb/328804 I would suggest you to read below article to understand Exchange database size consumption. Understanding Exchange Databases Disk Consumption http://www.msexchange.org/articles/Exchange-Databases-Disk-Consumption.htm Since you installed Exchange 2003 SP2 in standard edition, verify that you have increased the size limit to 75GB as per below KB How to increase the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 18-gigabyte database size limit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912375
