Images not showing in outbound emails
Hey all, Got a problem with exchange 2003 and outlook 2003 running off a sbs 2003. Recently just popped up, When a user sends an email internally, with pictures embedded in the email, it works perfectly fine, But when sent externally, it does not work, not even the signature logo doesnt display, just shows the red cross in a box. Pulling my hair out here, any advice?

It might contain just link of image file in the mail which is pointing to internal sites so internal users would be able to see it but not external. You can right click in the body of msg and select view source, verify that image link is not pointing to internal website...Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

As far as i can tell, it is pointing to a CID. Does this help at all?

When pictures in your email won't download, even though you have Outlook configured to download external content (or allow it on a per-message basis), the problem is usually a "full" temporary file folder. You need to locate the SecureTemp folder and delete the contents (or the entire folder) then restart Outlook. The images should display correctly. The SecureTemp folder for Outlook 2000 to 2003 installed on Windows XP is at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\OLK*. The OLK directory will end in a series of numbers. You can look in the registry for the location of the folder by looking in the registry. You can change the folder to point to a new location, but be sure the new folder exists before changing it in the registry. The OutlookSecureTempFolder value (for Outlook 2007) is at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Security. For older versions of Outlook, change the 12.0 to your version number.Vinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Just tested this, it didnt make a difference at all. Im pretty sure that solution that Vinod has supplied, isnt the correct one for this situtation. User's can see the image's perfectly fine, but when they send it outside of the network, no user's can see the image's. Email's are sent to send as HTML with pictures sent with them. Any more idea's anyone? This is making me pull my hair out.

Hello Rob, Is there some third party anti-spam software installed on the server? If so, please disable them temporarily and test the issue. I saw a similar case is resolved by this in our internal database. If the issue persists, could you please send the problematic email to me? Please send it both in rich text format and HTML. Please also send the picture in normal attachment(insert--file). I will see if I can figure something out. Thanks, Elvis
