Inbox under Deleted Items Folder during import
We have recently migrated the mailboxes from our Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 server. Most of the mailboxes imported just fine, however two or three had the Inboxes appear subordinate to the Deleted Items folder(we are also using Outlook 2003). When we try to move them to the top level, it says we cannot move the default E-mail folders. Thanks for any help you can give with this as we would rather not have to rebuild the mailbox.

Hi all,
Last weekend we migrated round about 4000 mailboxes. Unfortunately,4 user'shad the same issue (OL2003, E2k3-->E2k7). With an OL start with/FirstRun and a mailbox move to another E2k7 Store we could fix this problem without further problems. Recreate the ost-file if necessary.

Same problem here, easy to fix.
either set up the users Outlook profile on your computer or on there computer do the following.
Download and run Microsoft Mapi Editor, free download (mfcmapi)
Within this program open their Mailbox, a new window will open.
Expand Root Container
Expand Top of information Store.
Under deleted items, right click on the Inbox, select copy, then there will be a check box to move it, do this and move it todirectly under Top Of Information Store.
Close out, and all done

Turns out some random bloke on a Technet message board had this problem when moving users from Exchange 2003 to 2007, and after some of the same steps I had taken, he had found the solution that worked equally well for me. Moving the user back to the old server, then back AGAIN to the new server put the Inbox back where it belonged. While I dont understand the root cause of this problem, Im glad to have solved it without the pains of nuking a mailbox. Just further proves that keeping an old Exchange server around for a few weeks after its migration is a Smart Move.
