Increase database size limit-Exchange Server 2003 SP2
Hello,
My question is regarding Exchange Server 2003 Standard SP2.
I'm planning to follow the instructions in MS article ID 912375 to increase the database size limit. The Exchange Server Analyzer Tool brought this to our attention that we were nearing the 16GB default size limit. When I navigate to the
registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\<var>Server name</var>\Private-<var>Mailbox Store GUID
I see 3 Private entries. How do I tell which one is referring to the correct database store.</var>
<var>I also read that the Database size buffer in percentage and Database size start check time should be set. Do these values need to be set if I increase our database size limit?</var><var> </var>
<var>Thanks.</var>andyh999

Couple of things here.
The 16gb limit is Exchange 2003 SP1 or older. SP2 increases it to 18gb.
You shouldn't have three stores. Do you have three stores listed on the server then? You shouldn't do. The most you could have is two - a mailbox store and a recovery storage group. Perhaps one doesn't exist?
If you don't set the check time, then it will be checked at 5am by default. Setting the time to something else is up to you.
Same for the buffer. It will allow you to know that you are getting close to the limit.

thanks for the reply Sembee.
We have one mailbox store and a mailbox store under recovery storage group (as well as a public folder store). I don't know how we arrived at 3 Private registry key entries. Could I simply change the database size limit on all 3 keys and be OK?andyh999

It is not best practise to keep an RSG in place all the time, they should be created on demand. Therefore I would suggest that you drop it completely and restart the information store. That should tidy up the registry entries. That may well be why you have
multiple entries in the registry anyway.
There should be no harm in making the registry change for all keys, because if the key isn't recognised it will be ignored.

Hi andyh999,
About how to how to increase the Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 18-gigabyte database size limit, you could refer to below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912375
Follow Sembee's suggestion.
You also could confirm the GUID for the special Database through Adsiedit.
