Hi,
First, try to update your printer driver to latest version.
Then try to start OneNote in safe mode[hold ctrl key while startup] to see if this issue is caused by add-ins.
If it works fine in this situation, you can disable add-ins.
How to do this, you can refer to this article:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/enable-or-disable-add-ins-in-office-programs-HA010034127.aspx
Hope that helps.
Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for the help. I tried using OneNote in safe mode but the problem persisted. I also noticed that the "Send to OneNote 2010" printer is grayed out in my devices. When I went into the printer preferences to update the driver, I clicked on the ports tab, but was then was told I needed to select a port to continue. I hit cancel and figured I would ask you before I continued. It seems there is no port associated with this printer?
Thanks again!
I'm having the exact problem using OneNote 2010 and Win 7 64-bit. OneNote 2010 worked perfectly on my XP Pro laptop. But my new install on Win 7 Home Prem 64 simply does not want to work. Anytime I attempt print to onenote, it goes through the motions, then gets hung at the 1/3 point on the progress bar. It will remain that way (I've let it go as long as 30 minutes) until I press cancel. I used to love the print function and really miss it. I've found no solution on the net. The only add-in I'm using is MS Math and I used that on the XP machine with no problem. It's a MS add-in, so should be compatable.
Any progress at all in the last few weeks, Tenkely?
Thanks,
UCBS
My problem was similar. I could insert Word and PowerPoint documents as printouts, but not pdfs. I had not been using Adobe Reader as my pdf reader, so I tried installing it and now I can insert pdfs as printouts. Are those of you having trouble using alternative pdf readers or alternatives to office (OpenOffice or maybe even less recent versions of Word, Excel, or PowerPoint)? I'm not too happy about needing to install Adobe Reader again and set it as my default (at least while using OneNote), but it looks like that is the fix in my case.
I am encountering this same issue with OneNote 2010. I to use Insert > File Printout with three PDFs and only one worked. For the other two, the progress bar just stalled about 40% of the way.
Any ideas?
Hi,
I had the same problem. Turns out you have to have the 'OneNote' icon in your task bar. This can be accomplished if you go in OneNote under options>Display> click 'Place OneNote icon in the notification area of the taskbar'.
I had that turn off and one I turned it back on it worked. I think OneNote uses it as a 'clip bord' to open and transfer your file.
Anyways hope it works
(using XP, and Office 2010)

Well, it's August 2013 and I am having this same issue now using Office 2010 on a Windows 7 64bit laptop - what I noticed though was that there was an inconsistency in when/how the error occurred. When I try to move a PDF file from an email [as an
attachment] sent by a colleague onto a OneNote page it hangs up around 40% as we are all experiencing, however, when I move the same PDF email attachment that originated by my printing it out and scanning it in via our MFD [printer/copier/scanner multi functional
device] it goes into OneNote with no problem. The only difference I can see at this point was the file size, could that be the issue? That seems lame if so, as the original copy was only 453KB and the scanned version was 35KB. Is there a
size setting somewhere that I have to override maybe??
