Installing Exchange 2010 on same box with DC?
Hi, I have a problem installing Exchange 2010 SP1 on same box with Domain Controller which is running on Server 2008 R2 SP1 standard edition. Until now, I have several successful installations of Exchange 2010, but on separate box. I know the installation procedure, very well and I know that installing DC and Exchange on same box is not recommended, but in this situation I must perform this action. I’m performing standard installation and any check points goes well. The problem occurs on installation of “Hub Transport role” and I receive next error message: ************ Summary: 3 item(s). 1 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:15:13 Preparing Setup Completed Elapsed Time: 00:00:09 Hub Transport Role Failed Error: The following error was generated when "$error.Clear(); if ($RoleStartTransportService) { start-SetupService -ServiceName MSExchangeTransport } " was run: "Service 'MSExchangeTransport' failed to reach status 'Running' on this server.". Service 'MSExchangeTransport' failed to reach status 'Running' on this server. Dont do it, will be painful for you down the road. If you want to then go ahead, but I'm sure others will warn you too. When you get to that stage, go to windows services and try to start that service yourself. If it's in a hung state, then kill the process via task manager and start it manually yourself.Sukh

Thank you for quick answer and the warnings, but, I must install them on same box. I have try your suggestion, it didn’t worked L. I ended the process and have start the service manually, however, “Microsoft Exchange Transport” service is stuck in starting position.

Try again, Dont cancel the setup though. What stage are you at with the install? What roles have been installed and are in progress? What does the exchangesetup.log say?Sukh

Any reason why you installed Exchange and DC on the same box?
