Installing Exchange Server on Domain Controller is not Recommended.
I would recommend to install it on a Client Server.
Please find the Steps in the below link

Hi,
Why is it not recommended ? And what is a Client Server ?
My setup has three machines (virtual) - DC1, DC2 and Client. Of these which should I choose?

Client Server - A domain Joined Machine
& Not a DC
In your situation Don't install on DC1 or DC2
If your server fails. Recovery becomes tedious.
And if Active directory Server and Exchange Server runs on the same machine. you might get service startup issues.
Microsoft Recommends to install on a independent server on not on DC.

Hello,
Please make sure you want to install exchange server version.
We can't recommend you install exchange and DC on the same server.
Here are some articles for your reference.

You cannot install on a Client OS - Windows 7
Please read OS requirements of Exchange 2010
It should be a Server edition like - Windows Server 2008 R2Satheshwaran Manoharan | Exchange 2003/2007/2010/2013 | Blog:http://www.careexchange.in | Please mark it as an answer if it really helps you ------------- I do not represent the organisation I work for, all the opinions expressed here are my own. There is no "lower version of Exchange Server"
You can either install Exchange 2013 at Windows Server 2012/2008 or Exchange 2008 at Windows Server 2008. BackOffice Server Applications cannot be installed on a Windows client editions like 8/7/Vista/etc.

Hi,
I am learning about AD. I have a test environment with DC1,DC2,Client1. I read from posts that its not a good practice to install Exchange Server on a DC. But for testing purposes can I install and analyse features and work with them ?

Hi ananddrox,
According to Microsoft Exchange system requirements (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996719.aspx) it is highly not recommended to install Exchange Server on a DC even for testing purposes:
! "For security and performance reasons, we recommend that you install Exchange 2013 only on member servers and not on Active Directory directory servers. However, you can't run DCPromo on a computer running Exchange 2013. After Exchange
2013 is installed, changing its role from a member server to a directory server, or vice versa, isn't supported."
Resource allocation is around the same if you use a separate virualized server, but some Exchange High Availability features won't work in case of mixing ADDS & Exchange Server on one system.
