Installing Windows Server 2003 as member server connected to another Windows Server 2008 as domain controller
Hello all,
I've been following the installation instructions here on the TechNet library and I noticed some discrepancies. I'm trying to install Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 SP2 as a member server to another Windows Server 2008 (domain controller).
I want to make the Exchange 2007 and mailbox server on the Windows Server 2003 and have it only be accessible in my intranet only (no internet).
Questions:
1. Is this setup ok and possible?
2. Noted discrepency: In the following link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124295(EXCHG.65).aspx, in the Application Server dialog box, I noted that
there was no option for ASP.NET from my OS. How do I install the ASP.NET on my Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard x64 machine?
Thanks!

Adding Windows 2003 to the 2008 domain isn't an issue.
With regards to asp.net, you will need to install that as a separate download. The link you have provided is for Exchange 2003 prerequsites. The Exchange 2007 Pre-Reqs are very different.
Unfortunately Microsoft have removed the list for Windows 2003, as it is no longer a supported OS. Any reason why you can't install it on to a Windows 2008 system?
You will need to install
net Framework 2.0, MMC 3, PowerShell 1.0 and some other bits, plus run Microsoft Update a few times. The installer will tell you if anything is missing.

Ah! Thanks for pointing that out. I am now looking at the correct TechNet Library with Exchange 2007 instead of 2003. I was looking at the system requirements for Exchange 2007 and it looks like Windows Server 2003 is acceptable. I am using
Server 2003 because of programs that are dependent on the OS.
May I kindly ask, if Windows Server 2003 is to be a member domain, do I still need to go through the "How to prepare active directory and domains"? http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125224(EXCHG.80).aspx Since
AD is already set up on another Windows Server 2008, is this still needed to do "setup /ps", "setup /p /on:<organization name>", and "setup /PrepareDomain:<domain name>"?
Thank you for your guidance.

Hi,
You just need simply run the exchange 2007 installation wizard (setup.exe) to install exchange 2007 to your organnization. The wizard will help you to do these tasks. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
