What steps must I follow to install an additional domain controller AFTER Exchange Server 2007 B2 is already installed. Current setup: -1 domain controller, somain functional level -1 Exchange server -1 member server on separate subnet to become additional domain controller in the existing domain. This member server has Exchange Server 2007 B2 Management tools installed. (All servers are for testing only running in VMWARE) The domain controller is running in Windows 2003 functional mode. On the member server I followed these steps: 1. Start | Run | cmd.exe 2. dcpromo 3. In the "Domain Controller Type" dialog box I selected "Additional domain controller for an existing domain and clicked Next 4. In the next prompt provided Domain Enterprise Admin details for the domain and clicked next 5. In the next prompt provided the full domain name (not including the DC's name) and clicked next 6. Accepted defaults for Database and Log folders and clicked next 7. Accepted default for Shared System Volume and clicked next 8. Provided restore password clicked next twice 9. After a few minutes receive the following error message: Active Directory Installation Wizard The operation failed because: The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory help. "The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer." ~ Is there a way to get around this? The suggested solution isn't right. I'm guessing I need to upgrade the 'AD schema' to Exchange 2007 version of schema on the member server before making the machine a domain controller. I couldn't find the information on how to do this.

Hi, I think this is likely not to do with Exchange. It sounds much more likely that you are trying to add a server running 2003 R2 to your domain which currently only has plain 2003 in it. Please check the versions of Windows you are using. Then if it is a case of the new server being R2 make sure you run the adprep from disk two of the R2 set otherwise it won't work!
