Instant Search for Outlook 2010

Hello all, everytime I open outlook 2010 and click on the search bar Outlook wants to install new components for the instant search feature. Basically Windows installer runs everytime and in the event log it says its reconfiuring the office 2010 suite. I recently just turned this service on and obviously now outlook finds it and wants to use it. What would cause this behavior everytime I click in the search bar?

This is a 2008 R2 RDS Server everyone has roaming profiles

Hi Mike,

Please make sure you are not using the mandatory user profile which won't save settings when the user logs off.

See how to manage mandatory user profile: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973289

Hello, Im not using mandatory profiles, I'd also like to note that I'm using Outlook in Online mode and not cached. Anything else I could look at? Im thinking that since when I installed outlook the search feature was not installed at the time and could be causing this ? I was going to do a repair on Outlook

Thanks!

2010 SP1 I don't recall what RU I'm at I think its 4 or 5 ? . I'd also mention that the instant search feature works. Im only getting the MSI installer everytime you click in the bar to search for something inside outlook.

Heres a screenshot

Hello, setting the option in group policy to not show the installer window didn't work. Let me know what your colleague says.

Hi Mike,

You may way to try logging onto the Terminal Server as ADMIN and attempt a repair of Outlook. This will repair/re-build all the dll's and its integrations with Outlook.

Ok I'll give that a shot thanks. What to do if that fails ?

Hi Mike,

If that fails then we would probably want to open an SR (Service Request) with Microsoft Commercial Technical Support so we can have a dedicated resource assigned to help expedite a resolution.

I wish microsoft didn't move their tech support out of state, for 150$ everytime I call it takes months to finally get back to the united states for support and get my case resolved. Nothing against them I know they are trying their best but it just seems they lack the knowledge to quickly fix problems.

I'm experiencing this same problem and do not have a solution yet. Has anyone come up with a way to fix this yet?

Thanks,

Matt
