We have a process worked out for removing public folders from 2013 but I wanted to check and see if there was an official guide from MS that I have overlooked or if someone else has experience in removing modern public folders.
Our process is as follows please point out any flaws you see with the plan.
- Delete the top level public folder hierarchy leaving only the root folder.
- delete secondary PF mailboxes
- delete primary PF mailbox
-
go into ADSI edit. Browse to Configuration\Services \Microsoft Exchange\ {org name} View the properties of the org. Find msExchDefaultPublicFolderMailbox and clear the setting.
-
from the exchange shell run "Set-OrganizationConfig -PublicFoldersEnabled none"
-
prepare for a barrage of Outlook users getting "Your Administrator has made a change and requires you to restart Outlook" or "Allow this website to configure server settings?"
This is not a change you can go through in the middle of the night and not have anyone notice. Let your help desk & users know in advance..
Anyone have ideas on how to avoid the issues seen in step 6 or is this just going to be an issue you need to be prepared to deal with?
